Growing Stronger Together

At OLG, we’re a band—of creatives, project managers and problem solvers. But, more importantly, we’re sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, moms and dads, friends, partners. We’re a lot of important things, to a lot of important people, and our single instrument—ourselves—needs to be taken care of, first.

That’s why we launched a wellness program, called ‘Capo.’

This program was collaboratively created—seeking input from our entire team, and structured to adapt to the needs they identify. We also wanted to make sure to address all aspects of wellness: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, environmental, financial and spiritual.

In its pilot year, our wellness program features monthly challenges, quarterly group activities and personal goals (complete with an accountability buddy!). All of these are optional for OLG’ers to participate in. The prizes? Badges—designed by OLG’ers and distributed digitally (for now).

Monthly Challenges

Each month, we set a monthly challenge for OLG’ers to participate in. The challenges are based around a theme, and OLG’ers set their own challenge within that theme for the month. It’s entirely self-monitored—you check whether you accomplished what you set out to do on a daily/weekly basis.

2021 Monthly Challenges

  • May: Steps
  • June: None—We began planning for Capo more seriously at this point!
  • July: Water
  • August: Sleep
  • September: Step Outside
  • October: Reading
  • November: Screen Time
  • December: Fruits & Vegetables

Quarterly Activities
Every quarter, we plan an activity that we all can participate in, which allows us to work on our personal wellbeing and teambuilding. This quarter, we went on a team kayak trip down in Leo. Other activities we’re thinking of in the future include lunch ’n’ learns, volunteering and mobility classes (we sit at our desks a lot!).

Personal Goals
OLG’ers have the option to set a personal goal, to be accomplished in whatever timeline they choose. In our (personal) experience(s), one of the hardest things about setting goals is the accountability factor—that’s why we built the accountability buddy into this system. OLG’ers can pick an accountability buddy (fellow OLG’er) to check-in on their progress with.

Quality Time
OLG’ers find a few hours every week to work on their wellness—whether that means ending one day a bit early to spend more time with family, working from home one day a week or taking long lunches for midday workouts.

We have big dreams for continuing to grow this program, building a healthy home for us to flourish in.

With OLG’s Capo, OLG’ers are armed with support to change the key they play in.

Special thanks to our friends at Design Collaborative for sharing their insights on their own DC Fit program!
