It seems I’m often looking for an excuse to work on a new, fun illustration—and many times that’s seen in my gig poster work. But up until recent months, there haven’t been a lot of shows. The result was an exploration into a game design where I’d have the opportunity to do several new visuals all centered around one theme.
As a kid, I always liked the essential games based on memory cards. I decided to make my own version with a space theme. That’s when Alien Alien Robot was born. I developed unique illustrations for eight different colorful aliens and robots, along with four “specialty” cards.
The final packaging was just as important to me, and I wanted to make sure it looked visually appealing and felt a bit different than a standard card deck. I decided to go with a circle card design and put the full deck into a black round tin—on which I created and placed two custom stickers—one on the top, and another to label each individually for an edition of 100. As an extra fun bonus, a magnetic patch of one of the designs was added to top it all off!
The local toy shop Hopscotch House is a perfect home to carry a few of the games. You can purchase them in their online shop.
