Uncover the Gold: David Wax Museum

In 2017, OLG presented David Wax Museum at the Middle Waves Music Festival. The band had previously played two stripped-down concerts at our own B-Side; the first as a trio, and the second as a duo with band leaders David Wax and Suz Slezak, who are married. David and Suz’s commitment to their art—and to being incredible parents to their young children—inspired us.

For the Middle Waves set, the band brought their full seven-piece power—and, as they were debuting new songs from the forthcoming Line of Light album, asked if we might film the set. We said we’d be thrilled to do so, and in fact, would they be interested in us following them around the whole weekend, perhaps making a short web film about the pursuit of music and touring—and family life…?

And off we went on an adventure, which eventually took us to Charlottesville, VA (the band’s hometown), and later another road trip to interview Line of Light producer (and My Morning Jacket guitarist) Carl Broemel.

After a one-time-only screening + performance event in Fort Wayne last fall, the finished film—20-minutes—premiered on Vevo in May 2020.
