Strangled: A Survivor’s Plea to
Men Who Look the Other Way

One Lucky Guitar had the privilege of partnering with Dottie Davis and Kathy Curtis to design the cover of the book they co-authored. In Strangled: A Survivor’s Plea to Men Who Look the Other Way, Dottie—a former Fort Wayne police officer—shares her story of surviving domestic violence at the hands of her husband, also an officer, and the remarkable path that followed.

She didn’t just survive. She spent the rest of her career rising through the ranks, becoming a domestic violence advocate and, ultimately, a highly sought-after international speaker and trainer.

Dottie is unstoppable, except for one thing: She alone can’t put an end to domestic violence. That’s why she’s sharing her plea that men stop looking the other way. In her book, she invites men behind the curtain to see what she faced growing up, in her marriage and even within law enforcement culture. She trusts that once they understand the kinds of abuse women try valiantly to survive, they’ll no longer stay silent when they’re in a situation to safely intervene.

OLG’s intention was to create a book cover that feels strong and unmistakable without being triggering. The cover features clean, modern typography and subtle symbolism—suggesting tension and silence without depicting violence.
