Learning to be a good leader is a lot like learning a new language. It takes time, commitment and practice to get it right.
That’s what the “Language of Leadership” conference in Fort Wayne was all about. It was a day of lectures with national and local speakers—including our own Matt Kelley—designed to help local nonprofit leaders use change to achieve enduring, positive results in their organizations.
The Foellinger Foundation, a grant-making body supporting Allen County nonprofits, organized the event and asked OLG to capture the highlights. But we wanted to do more than document the day. We wanted to continue conversations at the conference in a way that nonprofit leaders could relate to and apply in their lives.
So we put together a video and social media campaign featuring a few inspiring leaders who attended the conference: Sherry Early-Aden, Doug Wood and Carrie Minnich. Then we showed how these leaders used skills from the conference to advance their work.
It turns out, helping leaders change organizations often starts with helping leaders be comfortable with change themselves, by not forcing it or avoiding it, and the “Language of Leadership” conference did just that.
It showed how leaders like Sherry, Doug and Carrie can harness change as a force for good in Allen County and carry the Foellinger Foundation’s legacy into our future.
