Omniscient OLG web narrator speaks:
Nate Utesch was Number Three and arrived with an absolutely contagious enthusiasm and a boundless energy for design, interactive, concept, sound and heart.
After firing up his computer on his first day, Nate's next order of business was to start growing his beard.
Early in Nate's career at OLG, he and Matt found themselves in Bryan, Ohio, with seasonal affective disorder visors strapped to their heads. The light went blue and white. They blinked once and were in Austin, Texas, staring down plates piled high with barbeque of transcendent quality, ears ringing.
At One Lucky Guitar, we have more "Could we really do this?" and "Did that really happen?" moments in a month than many companies do in a whole year. More often than not, Nate Utesch is in the center of that action.
He is too modest to realize the size of his fan club.
Q & A:
This music/movie/book/people changed my life:
music: Significant LP beacons as I exited my adolescence - Refused: Shape of Punk to Come, 1998; Sigur Rós: Ágætis Byrjun, 1999; Radiohead: Kid A, 2000; Appleseed Cast: Low Level Owl vol 1, 2001
movie: The Right Stuff - saw it with my Dad when I was ever so little and knew I wanted to do nothing but be an astronaut when I grew up. And now I am.
book: Chris Ware's Acme Novelty Libraries.. even in just the last 3 years. An illustrator I don't just aspire to, but find vague similarity in. Even though he's light years ahead of me, I can relate to his work and I really appreciate his writing.
person: My little brother and sister. They change me on a regular basis.
Best menu item in Fort Wayne:
Green Curry - Baan Thai
My favorite thing to do is:
sitting at a 1979 Mark II Fender Rhodes with my 4 best friends
Would you have even guessed it?
totally into Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives.... for the story.
Thing I like best about the person that sits to my right (Jake Sauer):
...his eye for type and his illustrative talents encourage me daily. Both keeps me sharp and blows my mind.
