(Fort Wayne, Ind.) One Lucky Guitar, Inc. (OLG), recently received a 2011 Star Award from the Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Indiana (DSANI) alongside partners Lutheran Health Network (LHN) and Indianapolis-based Lodge Design. The annual award is given to organizations that have made a positive impact on the people of northeast Indiana with Down syndrome and their families. The 2011 award recipients were nominated by DSANI members and were presented with their awards at DSANI’s annual meeting.

The LHN campaign that earned the local design & marketing boutique the recognition highlighted various health-related stories with positive outcomes, including a 30-second Dupont Hospital Birthplace TV commercial featuring the Fleischer family. The commercial portrayed Mindy and Chris Fleischer and their three children. While the commercial focused on the Fleischer’s youngest child Gavin’s early arrival and unique NICU experience at Dupont Hospital, their middle child (who has Down syndrome) was featured as well.

“Our goal all along was to provide a genuine glimpse into the daily life of this great Dupont family; Tristan being one of three Dupont babies featured,” said Alice Robinson, vice president of marketing and planning, Lutheran Health Network.  “We are very pleased that the commercial has been so well received and hope that it leads to further inclusion of individuals who may not always get the limelight.  It’s an honor to be recognized by an organization that understands the value of providing support and advocacy to individuals who have so much to offer.”

According to Kimberly McCoy, director of DSANI, the organization felt the campaign highlighting the Fleischer family as a happy, healthy success story was an excellent example of community inclusion.

“Our goal was to take a route that would reveal the meaningful relationships that LHN’s caregivers and hospitals establish with their patient families,” says Matt Kelley, OLG’s owner. “The employees of Lutheran Health Network commit to building those relationships every day, every time they interact with their patients. We simply found a way to convey the strength, focus and positivity that LHN has empowered this particular family with through superior patient care.”
